Sassicaia can be considered one of the most famous Italian wines in the world because of its overall perfection in the tasting. Born from the intuition of the Marquis Mario Incisa Della Rocchetta of Tenute San Guido to create a high-quality wine in the Bolgheri area, where climatic characteristics and territory are similar to Bordeaux lands of the great Bordeaux wines. Sassicaia was harvested for the first time in 1968 and collected right now a great success, with a welcome worthy of a Premier Cru Bordeaux.
Sassicaia is made from 85% Cabernet Sauvignon and 15% Cabernet Franc. The year 2013 was a fantastic year in every aspect, characterized by favorable weather conditions, which favored the aromatic extraction cabernet.
The healthy grapes harvested strictly by hand were subjected to soft pressing and fermentation in steel at controlled temperature of 30-31 ° C (without adding external yeasts), with medium maceration of about 9-12 days for both the Cabernet Franc that for the Cabernet Sauvignon, which was followed by frequent pumping over of must and delestages. After an increasingly Steel malolactic fermentation, the wine is placed in French oak barrels, where it ages for a period of 24 months before bottling and a subsequent phase of aging in bottle before commercialization.

Sassicaia has a regal and intense red color, contains a wide variety of red fruits perfumes that give a round, full-bodied taste, with soft tannins and a long finish.

Tenuta San Guido

No one before Mario Incisa della Rocchetta had ever dared to produce a Bordeaux-style wine on Italian soil, let alone in an area such as Bolgheri, which was unknown to the world of wine. The innovative decision to plant cabernet on the San Guido Estate was in part due to the similarities he had found between his Tuscan property and the soils of Graves in Bordeaux. Marquis Incisa was raising racehorses on his estate at the time, as he still does today (in the 1950's, one of his horses, Ribot, won all of the races in which he participated).
