Carantan Collio Rosso DOC
Carantan is Collio Rosso DOC red wine by Marco Felluga winery, obtained from a blend of 50% Merlot, 40% Cabernet Franc and 10% Cabernet Sauvignon grapes. The wine’s name, Carantan, comes from a very old word in Friulano dialect, ponca, which refers to the marl and stratified sandstone that make up the fine-grained, crumbly soils characteristic of the Collio appellation.
After the harvest by hand in mid-October and gentle destimming, the grapes underwent maceration in large steel vats for a variable period depending on the year, and they are delicately pressed to maintain their varietal flavors and aromas. After aging in small oak barrels for eighteen to 20 months, the wine was bottled and aged in the cellar for approximately one year.
Intense red color, tending to garnet. The scent is strong, elegant and complex. Raspberry and black-cherry notes, as well as delicate spicy hints. On the palate, the wine presents rich complexity, which confirms and amplifies all the sensations perceived on the nose. We suggest serving it at a temperature of 18-20 °C.
FOOD MATCHING SUGGESTIONS
Given the blend of this Friulian wine, Marco Felluga's Carantan is ideal in combination with first and second courses based on meat, especially paired with mushrooms and truffles.
Chosen for you
More than a century has passed, since the first Felluga crossed his history with wine. The island of Istria was the place of origin of Malvasia and Refosco d'Istria productions. Just after the Great War, the family get to the other side of the gulf, to Grado and then in Friuli.
