Reseca Nerello Mascalese Terre Siciliane IGT BIO
Reseca is a 100% Nerello Mascalese produced by Gulfi winery, from Vigna Poggio vineyard in Randazzo (CT), in the area around the Etna DOC classification. Here the particular volcanic soil and the Etna climate, of high hill, with high temperature variations between day and night, give this cru the typical organoleptic characteristics of these wines, with a particularly dense tannic structure that gives it considerable aging potential. The grapes are harvested in the second half of October and vinified in red with a long maceration of the must on the skins at a controlled temperature. After malolactic fermentation, the wine ages into small 225-liter French oak barrels, where it remains for around 24 months. After bottling, the wine refines at least 2 and up to 3 years in the bottles, depeding on the vintage.
Reseca shows a ruby red colour. It offers a refined and suffused bouquet, with spicy aromas, floral and balsamic notes that slowly open to the nose by spinning the glass. In the mouth it is dry, mineral. You can easily taste an important tannic structure. We suggest serving it at a temperature of 18 °C. This wine is able to mantain its characteristics unchanged for a long time in bottle, before becoming more austere and mature.
FOOD MATCHING SUGGESTIONS
Gulfi's Reseca red wine is excellent paired with red meat, legumes and little seasoned cheese.
Naturalness is the principle that has always guided the work of Gulfi winery. This is the same “naturalness” that distinguishes these wines, which are the fruit of traditional and bio-organic winegrowing and non-invasive vinification. The history of Gulfi was born in 1995, when Vito Catania inherited part of the family's lands from his father, giving rise to a pioneering project to enhance Nero d'Avola grape variety and rediscover the prestigious crus of Pachino, in south-eastern Sicily.
