Cascina Nuova Barolo DOCG
Cascina Nuova Barolo DOCG by Elvio Cogno is a Barolo that wants to show that even the youngest vineyards can produce excellent Barolos. It is the right Barolo for those who are approaching this type of wine, which is generally rather rich and complex. For this reason, Cascina Nuova is easier to understand, more immediate and of great appeal, at the same. It could be called a "didactic Barolo": created for a wider audience, it represents a starting point for Barolo tasting experiences. The result is an appreciable ratio between quality and price.
As in the history of great wines and in the Langa winemaking tradition, Valter and Nadia interpret Barolo as a virtuous assemblage of the best vineyards, wisely enhancing the qualities that each vineyard expresses. It is a wine that knows how to best express the character of an important territory. Nebbiolo harvest begins in October and the vinification process involves fermentation in steel tanks at controlled temperatures and with automatic reassembly. The wine evolves 24 months in Slavonian oak barrels, resting on the lees for about 60 days. After bottling, the wine completes its aging in the bottle for another 6 months.
Bright garnet red colour, tending to orange. Pleasant and immediate, it presents hints of flowers, light and delicate spices. In the mouth it appears pleasant, round, with the right balance of structure and elegance. The aftertaste is very harmonious and aromatic, tending to the mineral tones. We suggest serving it at a temperature of 18-19 °C.

The Elvio Cogno winery sits on the top of Bricco Ravera, a hill near Novello in the Langhe area of Piedmont, one of the eleven communes in which Barolo is produced. The cellar is housed in an 18th-century manor farm surrounded by 11 hectares of land, all occupied by vineyards. In 1990 Elvio Cogno bought this splendid historical farm in the family village and restored it to its former glory. Today the winery nestles in a breathtaking landscape between the hills and the sky. At sunset on clear days, a wonderful turquoise horizon frames the farm like a painting.
