Description

Plavis is a 100% Merlot from Piave produced by De Stefani winery. It is a tribute dedicated to the Piave river (from the Latin "Plavis") considered "sacred to the homeland", in memory of the fights which took place during the First World War. The Merlot grapes that make up this red wine grows on the Le Ronche estate owned by the winery, in Fossalta di Piave. The harvest is usually carried out in late September, so as to reach full maturation of Merlot grapes and a high coloring and aromatic heritage of the berries, softening the tannin. After destemming and crushing, the grapes are ready for maceration and fermentation in special temperature-controlled fermenters with frequent pumping overs, followed by racking and alcoholic fermentation in stainless steel tanks. The wine ages in oak barrels for 12 months on its own yeasts and then a further 12-18 months in the bottle.

TASTING NOTES

Plavis has an intense ruby ​​red colour. On the nose the aroma is intensely fruity, recalling notes of ripe red berry fruit, especially of berries. The taste is harmonious, soft, full-bodied, rightly tannic. Extremely rich and long-lived. We suggest serving it at a temperature of 16-18 °C. Its structure and completeness allow it to improve during maturation in the bottle, which can last up to 20 years, reaching its qualitative peak after 10 years from the harvest if well preserved in a horizontal position.

The De Stefani family originates in Refrontolo, a little hilly village in Veneto Italy, as results in official documents of 1624. In the second half of 1800 Valeriano De Stefani, the founder, individualized the best soil where to produce wines with rare personality in the Colvendrame estate in Refrontolo, on the hills between Conegliano and Valdobbiadene, north of Venice.
His son Valeriano, second generation, inspired by his careful wife Angelina, began the tradition which the De Stefanis have always adhered: total devotion to quality with no compromise.
