Fondo Filara Nerello Mascalese Sicilia DOC BIO
Cantine Nicosia's Nerello Mascalese is a red wine of "Fondo Filara" line, that includes single-vineyard wines produced from the finest Sicilian grapes coming from the most suitable areas for their cultivation, from Etna, Vittoria, to eastern and western Sicily. It is a volcanic wine obtained from native Nerello Mascalese grapes, grown at high altitude on the volcanic and lava soils of Etna. After the manual harvest, grapes are subjected to maceration and fermentation for about 10-15 days at a controlled temperature (24-26 °C). It follows the refinement mainly in steel, with 30% of the wine maturing for 5-6 months in barrique and further 3-4 months in large barrels. Aging ends in the bottle for about 4-5 months.
Ruby red colour with bright hues. The nose is characterized by hints of aromatic herbs and spices, together with notes of cherry and red fruits, while in the mouth you can taste great elegance, structure and balance, together with an interesting mineral scents, aromatic herbs and licorice aromas, closing in a long balsamic finish. We suggest serving it at 16-18 °C.

Cantine Nicosia was founded in 1898 by Francesco Nicosia, great-grandfather of the current owner, who opened a wine shop in Trecastagni, on the eastern side of Etna. Golden times for the Etna wine, that was already known and appreciated throughout Europe for its mineral strength and its "volcanic" personality.
