The history of Fondo Antico and of the Polizzotti-Scuderi family has its roots in the tenacious and generous Sicilian land, in the 80 hectares of vineyards located in Contrada Portelli, among Trapani and Marsala, facing the Egadi islands. The passion for the Sicilian territory, the centennial experience in viticulture and an obsequious respect for the origins are combined with research and innovation, to make this part of Sicily known to the world. Fondo Antico wants to make itself the spokesman of Sicilian landscapes, colours and perfumes through the cultivation of native vines of the island: Grillo, Inzolia, Grecanico, Zibibbo for the whites and Nero d'Avola and, for the most curious, the Perricone red wines.
The international varieties are very selected: Chardonnay, Merlot, Cabernet and Syrah are the varieties that have been able to reinterpret, in an original and unrepeatable way, the richness and strength of the lands that characterize the estate of Fondo Antico. The results that led the winery to be what it is today were achieved thanks to a deep knowledge of the territory, of its traditions and origins. The Fondo Antico plots are planted on land of marine origin: the soil is in fact rich in calcareous deposits such as rock salt, gypsum carbonates and sulphates, all of which contribute to making the company's wines more mineral and structured.
