Còlpetrone s one of the 5 estates part of Tenute Del Cerro Group, a great oenological project that has its roots in two of the most important wine regions of Italy: Umbria and Tuscany. Còlpetrone is one of the most important wineries in the Montefalco DOCG zone, an hilly area located in an excellent position and with particular geological features. Here Sagrantino grape variety reigns supreme, one of the oldest native Umbrian vines in Italy and one of the richest tannins ever. Despite its ancient origins, the wine almost disappeared in the 1960s and it was rediscovered only in more recent times, thanks to the enthusiasm of local winemakers who believed in the potential of this variety.
The vineyards in Còlpetrone cover about 63 hectares of land and even here the philosophy of Tenute Del Cerro Group promotes highly qualitative rather than quantitative farming systems, working the grapes with the utmost care and attention in order to maximize uniqueness, balance and elegance of Sagrantino grapes. Còlpetrone Montefalco Sagrantino is produced in three versions: Montefalco Sagrantino, Passito which is a sweet version of the red wine and the Selection "Sacer", which represents the result of the studies carried out in recent years by the company on this vine with great potential.
