Biondi Santi Jacopo - Tenuta Greppo
The prestige of Il Greppo dates back to 1800 when Clemente with his great intuition and thereafter six generations leading before the current winemaker Jacopo Biondi Santi, produced, with a 100% Sangiovese Grosso, a wine with peculiar characteristics for the great aging in bottle. After phyloxera came, in the second half of 1800 destroying the great majority of the European vines, he started a clonal selection in the different vineyards owned by the family. His project was to develop a specific clone, which, now, bears the name of the family, the BBS11 ( Brunello Biondi Santi 11 ) from which the unique Brunello Biondi Santi - Tenuta Greppo is produced. Nowadays, Jacopo Biondi Santi, following the path of his ancestors, Clemente, Jacopo, Ferruccio, Tancredi and Franco, continues at Il Greppo estate the rigorous clonal selection of Sangiovese and the severe production philosophy, following the tremendous success of more than 200 years of Brunello Biondi Santi, aware of the testimony left in his hands and the extraordinary collection of Riserva he owns, from 1888 till the ones he produced in the past few years. The study of the clones continues also at Castello di Montep³, the estate that belongs to Jacopo Biondi Santi in Maremma in southern Tuscany where nowadays, successful wines such as Sassoalloro, Schidione and Morione are produced persuing high levels of quality.
