Lagrein Alto Adige DOC Tramin
Tramin's Lagrein is a South Tyrolean red wine whose grapes are grown in vineyards that stretch over hills nearby the mountains, at an altitude between 250 and 400 m asl. After a manual harvest in small boxes, Lagrein grapes are destemmed and fermented at a controlled temperature of about 28-30 °C, in small steel and cement vats, where malolactic fermentation takes place. The wine ages partly in oak barrels and partly in cement tanks for at least 6 months.
The wine has a colour that varies from ruby-red to garnet-red. On the nose the bouquet expresses hints of violets, blackberries and cherries, together with herbaceous scents. The pleasantly full taste is of ripe cherry, raspberry, bittersweet cocoa and licorice. The tannic structure blends with spicy tones and gives the wine a persistent finish. We suggest serving it at a temperature of 16-18 °C. The aging potential of this bottle is estimated up to 3-5 years from the harvest.
FOOD MATCHING SUGGESTIONS
Tramin's Lagrein is an excellent red wine to combine with many South Tyrolean dishes, in particular with game, red meat and aged and spicy cheese.
