Vigna Messieri Rosso Piceno Superiore DOC
Messieri Vineyard is located close to Tenuta Cocci Grifoni and its Country Residence, in a natural environment of considerable value. Facing south-west, the vineyard is dedicated to Montepulciano and Sangiovese varieties from which we produce our DOC Rosso Piceno Superiore. This blend is made of 70% Montepulciano and 30% Sangiovese grapes. After the manual harvest and selection of the best bunches, towards the second decade of October, grapes are subjected to vinification with controlled temperature maceration of not more than 28 °C. The obtained wine ages in 50 hl Slavonian oak barrels for 24 months. Further refinement in the bottle for at least 6 months.
Vigna Messieri has a ruby red colour with a lively and impenetrable, very consistent garnet undertone. On the nose the wineexpresses hints of strawberry jam, cherries and prunes, together with fresh floral aromas ending with a dried note of carob, a hint of balsamic, and light spices, such as black pepper and clove. On the palate, a determined and powerful entry that leads to dry, soft and savoury flavors with good tannic structure. Well-balanced with a long finish that hints of eucalyptus and balsamic jam. We suggest serving it at 19 °C. Its complexity and longevity make it a wine of character, suitable for further aging in the bottle. After 10 years of aging, it can be enjoyed as a meditation wine.
