Puer Apuliae Nero di Troia Castel del Monte DOCG
Puer Apuliae or "Son of Puglia" is the name given to Frederick II of Swabia, emperor of the thirteenth century who, with the Castel del Monte, left an indelible memory of himself to humanity. This Apulian red wine of great character and elegance produced by Rivera winery is a "Puer Apuliae" because it is obtained from an almost forgotten clone of Nero di Troia selected by Rivera in its Tafuri vineyard. The harvest is carried out the last week of October. Grapes are macerated for 20 days at 28 °C with frequent pumpings over, delestage and micro-oxygenation. The wine evolves in new oak barrels for about 14 months, followed by a further refinement in the bottle for another 12 months.
Vinification in a modern way and aging for 14 months in new barriques made it possible to obtain a wine whose characteristic aromas of this variety, violet and star anise, are overwhelmingly sustained by a palate of great density. Elegant, dense, very long and persistent finish. If well preserved, it has an estimated aging capacity of up to 12-15 years.

Chosen for you
Rivera winery was founded by Sebastiano de Corato in the late 1940s, inspired by a vision of realising, and bringing to the world's attention, the enormous viticultural potential of the Castel del Monte area. Widespread recognition quickly followed, and Rivera became the benchmark of Apulia wine production and the force driving its rebirth, thanks as well to innovations in both winemaking and vineyards introduced by his son Carlo.
