Santa Cecilia Nero d'Avola Noto DOC
Santa Cecilia is the flagship wine of Planeta winery as far as the most important Sicilian grape is concerned: Nero d'Avola. The long research of the best place to make a great wine with this variety has driven Planeta to Noto, in the south of Sicily, the epicenter of the cultivation of Nero d'Avola grapes. Santa Cecilia is an expression of elegance, power, balance and exaltation of the unique scents of Sicily, and nowadays it is a reference point for reds from Sicilian native grapes. Its name derives from that of the family: Planeta di Santa Cecilia.
After destemming, follow 21-day maceration on the skins, racking and malolactic fermentation in steel, to reach a 14-month refinement in Allier oak barriques of 2nd and 3rd passage.
Santa Cecilia is a red wine that gives all typical aromas of southern Sicily. Spicy and fruity, bright and clear, with carob, bergamot, pomegranate and orange zest notes, in addition to blackberry, cherry and licorice scents. The fruity and the balsamic notes melt in the mouth in a sweet and vigorous way, while a dense tannic texture emerges, but in full harmony with the great structure of this wine. It is an aristocratic wine, deep and with a high taste lineage and great stylistic rigor. You can appriciate it immediately or even after an aging of 8-10 years. We suggest serving it by uncorking the bottle half an hour before serving, at a temperature of 18-20 °C.
FOOD MATCHING SUGGESTIONS
Planeta's Santa Cecilia Nero d'Avola is a Sicilian red wine with a noble and deep soul. Despite its structure, it does not fear the most risky food matching, such as pork, marinated sauces with chilli or fish dishes with rich and fibrous meat.
Established in 1995, Planeta is a Sicilian wine producer built on a long agricultural tradition handed down since 1500 through 17 generations in the area between Sambuca di Sicilia and Menfi.
