Nastagio Brunello di Montalcino DOCG
The Brunello di Montalcino "Nastagio" is a very high quality wine, produced by Col D'Orcia winery. It is obtained from a small selection of Sangiovese - recently carried out on ancient vineyards dating from the 1940s, a result of collaboration with the University of Florence. The must ferments on the skins for 18 to 20 days, at a controlled temperature under 28 °C, in 100 hl low and wide steel tanks, specially designed to effectively extract tannins and color. The obtained wine refines or the first year in French oak tonneaux of 5 hl, and then in oak barrels. Next aging in bottles of at least 12 months in controlled temperature rooms.
Ruby red with garnet reflections. Large, intense and complex aroma, with clear notes of ripe red fruits integrated with spices and vanilla typical of refining in tonneaux and large barrels. Excellent texture wine, with mature and persistent tannins in perfect balance with the acid freshness of the cultivar. Long, soft and pleasantly fruity aftertaste. We recommend serving it at 18-20 °C.
FOOD MATCHING SUGGESTIONS
Brunello Nastagio is an excellent meditation wine. Thanks to its tannic and aromatic texture, it pairs with fine and tasty dishes of red meat and wild game, such as wild boar, guinea-fowl or salmì pheasant. Great also with very seasoned Pecorino cheese.
Col d’Orcia is one of the oldest established wineries of Montalcino. The archaeological excavations show that the slopes of Orcia River were inhabited since the Etruscans, over 2500 years ago. Some olive trees among the Brunello vineyards prove all favourable conditions of Col d'Orcia’s climate and soil for growing grapes and olives.
