Malandrino Montepulciano d'Abruzzo DOC BIO
Malandrino 2012 marks a turning point for the Cataldi Madonna winery. The goal here was to make a great wine without any contamination from wood, and it was fully achieved thanks to the use of carefully refurbished cement tanks already present on the premises of the winery. The fruit of this Malandrino is clean and crispy, with early nuances of sweet cherries that then turn to lovely ripe sour cherries. In the mouth it is surprisingly fresh, a lovely wine that is dangerously easy to drink yet lacks none of the complexities. It’s a wine that goes with the entire meal, and ideal paired with the lusty cuisine of Abruzzo.
The wine-making activity started in 1920, three generations ago, the bottling in 1975. Until the beginning of the 90s, the company Cataldi Madonna was the only one to occupy the whole vineyards of Ofena. Today the Company is made of 31,4 hectares (exclusively cultivated with local and traditional vines like Montepulciano, Pecorino and Trebbiano), all located in the municipality of Ofena between 320 and 440 meters above sea level. In the country, the target is not the yield, but the plant balance, to obtain the best expression of the territory features.
