50° Vendemmia Salice Salentino Rosso Riserva
“We produce Salice since 1954, to celebrate this historic wine, from the 2004 vintage the label has the writing 50th vintage" - Leone De Castris
The 50th Salice Salentino DOC Reserve of Leone De Castris is a red Apulian wine, obtained from Negroamaro (90%), Malvasia Nera di Lecce (10%) grapes. After de-stimming and pressing of the grape, maceration takes place under controlled temperature at 20-22 °C for a period of 8-12 days. After malolactic fermentation, the wine is aged in oak barrels for about 12 months. It becomes "Reserve" only after 2 years from the vintage date. It refines in the bottle for a minimum of another 6 months.
50th Salice Salentino DOC Reserve has an intense red colour with garnet-coloured hints, made of Negroamaro and Malvasia Nera. To the nose fruity sensations of blackberry and black cherry, notes of basil and sweet spices due to the refinement in oak barrels. In the mouth it is smooth and balanced with a strong but never intrusive tannin. Long last fin-ish. We suggest to serve it at 16-18 °C.

Leone De Castris
Salice Salentino, a small village in Salento, Puglia, rich in vineyards and olive trees, is the landscape giving life to Leone de Castris’ wine tradition. It is exactly here, on the very spot where today’s cellar stands, that in 1665 Duke Oronzo, Earl of Lemos, gave birth to the company. From the beginning of the 19th century the Winery used to export bulk wine to the United States, Germany and France until when whit Piero and Lisetta Leone de Castris, the bottling had its start in 1925.
