La Viarte winery was founded in 1973. 41 hectares of beauty, in the middle of the hills, in one of the most famous wine growing region of Europe, the Oriental Hills of Friuli. It is the beginning of a winery that fixes in its name the connection between dream and reality, between roots and air, between past and future: "Viarte", in Friulian, means "spring". The passion that this winery transmits every day through its wines is the result of sharing a common project made of Wine and People. The bunch is intimacy, it is the most sincere expression of the vineyard, which will give its best only when it feels loved and protected.
The land covers an area of 41 hectares but only 26 hectares are occupied by vineyards. The rest is pure and simple wood. Since its foundation, La Viarte has decided to keep the territory intact, not to alter its balance, to respect its life, to actively involve it in the daily work in the vineyard.
La Viarte's philosophy embraces and promotes the idea of the necessary respect for the environment and for the work of the winemakers who preceded the current generations. Therefore, wine is a radical respect for the past ,as well as an innovative push, to grow enthusiastically in the future. Territory care and respect have allowed La Viarte to be one of the wineries selected for an innovative project promoted by CRA, the Council for Research and Experimentation in Agriculture, and the Ministry for Agricultural, Food and Forestry Policies. Thus, starting towards a new path of vineyard management, La Viarte is a symbol of environmental sustainability with the refinement of agronomic techniques such as, for example, "sovesci" (green manure: it is a vegetable fertilization practice that consists of interrating, with plowing or digging, one or more spontaneous herbaceous species to increase soil's feritlity), favouring biodiversity of the whole vineyard ecosystem and eliminating chemical substances.
The harvests are carried out strictly by hand, in two or three steps. Plant after plant, bunch after bunch, every single fruit is scrupulously selected and stored in small boxes. This management facilitates the transport, avoiding unwanted fermentation processes. All this is quality.
La Viarte cultivates several native Friulian grape varieties and it produces high quality white and red wines. From native white wines like Friulano, Ribolla Gialla, Picolit, Verduzzo Friulano, to the native reds Pignolo, Refosco dal Peduncolo Rosso, Schioppettino of Prepotto, Tazzelenghe and the international ones: Pinot Bianco, Pinot Grigio, Sauvignon, Cabernet and Merlot. The native grapes enclose in their grapes an ancient flavor and the history of a land written with the hands of nature. They are voices from the past that echo, inside a bottle, the pride of being pages of history. This is the native vine! Created in respect, nurtured in a hard, harsh, difficult territory but at the same time capable of giving great satisfaction. Timeless, beyond fashion.
