Banfi, a family owned wine producer based in Tuscany, is celebrated worldwide as “Builders of Brunello.” The Mariani family, firmly established as leading importers of fine wine in the US, founded their Castello Banfi vineyard estate in Montalcino in 1978. In so doing they indissolubly linked Banfi to this terroir and its growth.
They assembled a contiguous estate of 2,800 hectares, one third of which is planted to a constellation of single vineyards. Their respect for the territory and desire to highlight its character inspires them to produce wines of distinction and personality, each characterized by a soul deeply rooted in - and expressive of - this extraordinary place. Now the third generation of the Mariani family, with cousins Cristina Mariani-May and James Mariani, is fully at the helm of the family business. In addition to Castello Banfi, the Mariani family also produces wines of distinction at their Banfi Piemonte estate, which they founded just one year after their Tuscan venture.
