A splendid farmhouse looking out over the hills of Conegliano Valdobbiadene, the “heart” of Prosecco: this is the Astoria estate, which with its 40 hectares of vineyards is the historical home of the Treviso based winery. Here, brothers Paolo and Giorgio Polegato oversee the creation of wines found in the most exclusive restaurants, wine shops and wine bars throughout the world, from the USA to Japan. Prosecco primarily, but also other “jewels” of the Veneto region winemaking tradition: Merlot, Colli di Conegliano and Refrontolo Passito. The most popular are above all the three Proseccos in the Venice Edition, the special selection that pays homage to the history of the “Most Serene Republic of Venice”: Arzanà Cartizze Superiore DOCG, Corderie Valdobbiadene Prosecco Superiore DOCG and Galìe Prosecco Treviso DOC. Three wines whose names contain reference to the Arsenale, the commercial and cosmopolitan soul of the city and which are presented in the exclusive Astor bottle, with incisions and engravings created by the master glassmakers of Murano. In 2015 these are joined by Gaggiandre, the first certified organic Prosecco DOC from the Treviso based winemakers: a green departure that is not just confined to the wine, but affects the entire company, on a mission to reduce its impact on the environment. This is achieved by virtue of a biodiversity protocol being adopted whereby plants are used that are able to attract the most suitable indigenous insects to protect the vines: the result is 30% less treatments needed and a Vineyard that in springtime becomes a vast meadow full of colourful flowers, to the delight of visitors. The investment in a cellar with ultramodern technologies has allowed the company to become and confirm itself since 2011 as the leading privately owned winery in the DOCG area, able to process over 35,000 quintals of grapes per year.
